| On a waterfront site in a primarily seasonal community adjacent to a prominent lighthouse in Cape Elizabeth, Maine, the owners wanted to remodel an existing c.1920’s cape burdened with several ill-considered additions. The goal was a renovation of the entire structure, resolving the need for better spaces and views on all levels as well as adding a new master suite, an office, a guest suite and 3-car garage. It was critical to remain true to the local cottage scale and aesthetic despite the square footage that was to be added. |

A reworking of the cape and rebuilding of the subsequent additions was crucial in order to resolve the awkward relationships and level changes. Other moves included bringing added light and views into a new vaulted main living space and opening up a den to the light and views on the lower level, as well as adding a new detached guest house and garage to create a solar courtyard and providing a large wraparound deck from which to fully experience the adjacent landscape and water’s edge. |
