| A modest and affordable cabin with a four-season, one-bedroom core that can also accommodate a large number of summer visitors, on an island in Casco Bay, Maine. |
|
A delicate bridge, resting on a series of piers, brings visitors to a covered aerie with dramatic views of Casco Bay. From there, a staircase descends to the central cabin that forms the heart of the house. On one side, an expansive two-story screen porch provides three-season outdoor living and sleeping quarters, and on the other, a series of bunkrooms provides space for three generations to sleep.
Solar panels heat the hot water for the guests, and a small stove easily warms the super-insulated central core of the house, keeping energy use to a minimum. |
