| On a wooded, deep site in Cape Elizabeth, Maine, a couple wanted a large, shingle-style house and adjacent guest house/garage for themselves and their three active, young children. They requested spaces for formal entertaining, a guest wing, and distance between the master suite and the kids’ spaces for privacy. |

A vibrant, double-gable house delineates an adult wing and a kids’ wing divided by a common library space on the second floor. Generous active public areas are set below the kids’ wing and provide direct views and access to the sunny backyard, while the study, formal spaces and guest quarters are located below the master suite for noise and activity separation. Both volumes weave into an integrated whole from the interior and unite in a central living room that features a stone fireplace, built-in entertainment center, arched oversized glass and direct access to a sunny screened porch. An adjacent one-and-a-half-car garage with guest apartment above frames a private courtyard. |
